Kenya Mission Trip Information
July 15-Aug 2, 2012
(dates are tentative until airline tickets are purchased)
Where – Nakuru, Kenya (east Africa) about 3 hours northwest of Nairobi
Cost – $3600 per person
Includes air travel to/from Kenya (from LAX), all ground transportation in Nairobi, all meals and lodging for 18 days, training supplies, and a team shirt.
Areas of Ministry – We will be spending 2 weeks at the Nakuru Baby Orphanage run by Mission In Action (MIA). This orphanage is currently home to 90 children. While there, we will assist them at the school on site, working with the children, helping in the kitchen, working in the gardens, helping with laundry, and whatever other projects they need help with. We could also use dental and medical professionals.
Team – 15 adults and youth with a desire to serve God.
Miscellaneous information –
- at least 24 hours of travel time (LAX to Nairobi, Kenya)
- 11 hour time change (ahead of us)
- Need a passport (Must have receipt of application or photocopy by March 4. Passport must be good through Dec 2012)
- Kenya’s weather – temperatures in the mid 70’s for the high, cool evenings, expect rain.
- Languages spoken, English and Swahili
- Currency – Kenyan shilling (currently 95 shillings to $1)
Requirements –
- Application with a $1000 deposit (non-refundable once team is selected) due by Jan 22.
- Attend scheduled team meetings (depending on applicant’s location)
- Complete assigned reading and journals
- Have a growing relationship with God & be open to His leading
Tentative Meeting Schedule –
- Feb 25 - meeting/training *$1000 due
- Mar 31 - meeting/training *$800 due
- May 5 - meeting/training *$800 due
- June 23 – meeting/training
Team meetings in general will be 2 hours (Sat afternoon), and will include worship, sharing from our journals how God is working in our lives, cultural training, & a team building activity. (It is possible that two meetings may be combined to one).
*Please be aware that fees must be paid on time. Failure to pay in a timely fashion could result in being dropped from the team. (Please communicate ahead of time if there is an issue.)
